Hey guys Maryam here welcome to my channel or welcome back. In today’s video I am doing a full face using black owned makeup brands. So, of course I will be using some brands that you may have already heard of such as Fenty and Pat McGrath but I will also be using a lot of indie brands that you may not have heard of, so I’m very excited for this video, it’s way overdue.
This is the look that I prepared using all of this makeup that I have here in front of me. Let’s jump right into this. So, remember to subscribe, hit that notification bell so you can see all of my Wednesdays and Sundays videos and now let’s get to it.
Full face using black owned makeup here we come. Okay so the first product that I’m gonna be using today is this setting powder from Beauty Bakerie, Better Not Bitter Flour Setting Powder. Literally looks like flour.
It’s got some nutrition facts on the side, which is so, so cute. Vegan, 100% calories, 0% gluten, 0 light weight, yes mattefying, yes flashback nah. Love that this is so awesome. I’ve heard a lot about this brand it’s my first time using this powder.
The shade that I got is “Oat” which is translucent. I am generally just a fan of translucent powders over powders with color. This is what the packaging looks like again very, very cute. I love that it’s got a stopper.
I’m gonna dip my beauty blender into this powder. I’ve heard so many great things about this one. I love that this is a baking powder that is literally inspired by baking, got that flour power. Wow and I’m really impressed did you see how that just blended into my skin and disappeared into nothingness? I’m actually really curious to use this powder as an actual baking powder that it’s meant to be used as.
But for the purpose of this specific video just just gonna be doing my makeup as I always do or how I’ve been doing it lately which is powder under foundation. I have a feeling that this powder is going to deliver exactly what I’m looking for because it is so micro fine, and it is so perfecting you don’t even see it on my skin at this point.
You also don’t see my pores which is amazing. Beauty Bakerie is a brand that was started by a black woman, a young mom. I read a little bit online about the owner whose name is Cashmere Nicole and what was the most inspiring thing to me about her was that she was a natural born entrepreneur.
She has always been into business and she has always wanted to create products. So, in reading about the founder of Beauty Bakerie and about this brand I was truly inspired because this is a woman who made something out if nothing.
You know perhaps Beauty Bakery may not be a household name just yet, but it is a popular brand among celebrities such as Beyonce, to name a few and this powder in particular is a product that I would say has a cult following.
I can see why. Damn, what pores? How impressive. Okay so now for my foundation today you guys I went online uomabeauty.com whose owner Sharon Chuter I do know personally. I met her at a dinner in L.A.
the last time that I was there, and I was so, so, so excited to try her products. She has a line of foundations 51 shades, gorgeous shades that I heard such great things about it. Unfortunately, the foundation didn’t arrive on time and I really wanted to film this video for you guys so that I can have it up on Sunday.
For today’s video I am gonna have to reach for foundations from black owned brands that I already have in my arsenal. So, I do have Pat McGrath and I do have Fenty. I know these are giants and I also wanna shed light on some smaller brands but for today’s video I’m just gonna stick to one of these and once Uoma Beauty’s foundation arrives I figure I will do a video with that foundation anyway.
So, for today I’m gonna use this Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Long wear Foundation. Even though I am as oily skin type for some reason this one works better for me than the mattifying foundation.
It just works better with my skin texture which isn’t perfect, and I just like it better overall. So now Fenty Beauty as you guys may already know is majority owned by Rihanna. Fenty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Long wear Foundation comes in 50 shades same as the original Pro Filt’r Matte Foundation so if you already know your number it’s basically the same match for this one.
Has a natural finish medium to build-able full coverage foundation super easy to use easy packaging with a pump, squeezy tube that I love, oh yeah and $35. I am obsessed with the way that this foundation is gliding over that Beauty Bakerie powder and let me tell you I liked this foundation before but now that I am using the powder under foundation method, I think I like it even more.
It’s just making it a little bit smoother on application. It’s actually helping this foundation sort of set itself, but it doesn’t even look like it needs any powder on top. Okay now I also ordered some concealers from Uoma Beauty but again like I said they haven’t arrived yet, so I’ll include them in my next video.
So today for concealer I’m gonna be using Pat McGrath Labs in the shade LM10, I love this concealer I’ve talked about it a lot I have a video on this whole system check out up here. Mother Pat knows what she’s doing.
To blend out my concealer I’m also gonna be using Pat McGrath’s little brush here which is one of my absolute favorite concealer brushes. It helps to pack on the color and also blend it out. Gosh you guys I love this concealer so much just such a beautiful formula such a great finish not only does it cover but it also lifts the under-eye area.
Sometimes when I’m having a really good skin day, I just like to use a shade that matches my skin exactly. Just love how full coverage it is. I love that a little goes a long way. It’s perfect for not just covering imperfections but also great for the under eye it’s great for highlighting.
Literally it is one of those do everything type of concealer. Pat McGrath Labs has an excellent shade range. Let me tell you something when we say this is a black owned makeup brand that does not mean that the shade range is only solely geared towards the black community.
No, it is extremely inclusive. It has the lightest shades the deepest shades and everything in between which makes it so shocking to me that some of the mainstream non-black owned brands still to this day do not have an appropriate shade range for everyone.
Now you guys know I’ve always been vocal about shade ranges here on my channel but at this point I honestly don’t even feel like using brands that don’t have the appropriate shade ranges. I just don’t feel like it should be tolerated and yes absolutely brands should be creating shade ranges not just with deeper skin tones but they should also be concentrating on under tones so these deeper skin tones aren’t ashy so that they’re not reds so that they’re not grey so that there’s a variety of actual skin tones that look like skin.
Okay I’m actually very much obsessed with my skin finish right now. You know sometimes when my skin looks this good I don’t even wanna apply anymore makeup. I’m kinda just like I look great I’m ready to go out the door but since we ain’t going nowhere I am going to set my under eye.
I’m gonna use the same Pat McGrath Labs Under Eye Setting Powder. This one does come in three shades; this is the translucent one. Like said I love me a good translucent because I don’t want it to change the color of my actual concealer or my foundation.
I do find sometimes however that when a foundation is a little too pink for me a yellow setting powder helps to kind of offset it and make it work. Gosh this powder is so good I’ve talked about it many, many, many of my previous videos.
This is the one that I use all the time. It’s just so perfecting and it’s so micro-fine it doesn’t add any texture doesn’t look cakey or heavy. Okay I’m gonna leave it as is for now. Next thing I’m gonna do is reach for a little contour stick.
This one is from the black owned French brand called Black Up and this is a brand that I have been using for a while. I discovered it long ago. Might have even been in France. The shade that I’m using here is 00 and it’s a dual-ended stick with a cooler shade on one side and a lighter more contrasting shade on the other side.
You can also use this for your under eye or to chisel out that contour. Black Up is a great brand. I also have this little quad from them which is a color correcting cream compact. I like to use this little yellow shade again for color correcting to mix in with my foundation or with my concealer.
I haven’t used it in a while, but it is something good to have in your arsenal especially if you’re a makeup artist. Also, gonna add a little bit of this right here on the sides of my nose just a smidge you know and then I’m gonna blend it out.
Let’s use this Huda Sculpting and Shade brush. Now I’m not using any black owned makeup brushes for today’s video just using whatever brushes I have here but if you know of any please comment down below and let me know and let us know.
I’ll also have a much larger much longer more comprehensive list of all black owned makeup brands that I know of. I’ll list everything in the description box and of course feel free to drop any brands that you know of that I might have missed in the list of or that you’d want me to try in a video.
Good thing is that the description box can be edited, and I can always add more products and more brands to it. Oh, how satisfying was that blend just so seamless. Do we perhaps want a little chisel? You know what? I’m gonna go back to this Beauty Bakerie powder just because I love it so much and I really wanna see how it sets the rest of my face.
Really, really rather impressive you guys. Now another product that I got from Beauty Bakerie is this Beauty Bakerie Brownie Bar Face Palette. Again, really, really, really cute packaging reminds me of chocolate.
Now this palette has a blushy type of bronzer also contour shade and a gorgeous highlighter shade super-duper buttery. Oh, hi didn’t know I needed you there, but I certainly don’t mind having you there.
What? okay. Actually, had a bit of this. Do you see that pigment? Do you see how easily that blends? Gonna add this blushy bronzer kind of above the area where I contour. My first-time trying Beauty Bakerie and so far, their powder products seem really superior to me like just really excellent quality, super easy to blend on the skin.
Most importantly it’s skin perfecting. For my brows today I’m gonna use Fenty Brow MVP Pencil. You’ve also seen me review this one as well on my channel. It’s got that cute toothbrush looking brush on the other end.
I’m not really sure what shape I wanna go for today with my brows. I don’t know if I wanna do a laminated brow or just like a classic clean glamorous kind of brow but as always, I like to perfect the shape before eye shadow application because it helps me to map out my eye shadow application.
Okay I need a little bit more coverage here on the forehead maybe that’s too much. Okay brows are on ish. For my primer today you know it Fenty Beauty. The one and only. This is my absolute favorite primer.
To this day I have not discovered anything better. This one is just so good it works with every single eye shadow out there. It’s grippy yet it also protects your lid oils from seeping through and ruining and creasing your eye shadow.
I mean I’ve talked about it on so many occasions in so many videos but in case it’s your first time seeing me you’re discovering me through this video then you should know this is my holy grail eye shadow primer.
Are we ready for the eye shadow application? I’m ready. So, I have two brands that I wanna talk about. First one being Ace Beaute which is a black owned brand that I just recently discovered. I actually just got their products in the mail in PR so I’m really happy that I have it in my arsenal.
This palette Grandiose Palette is something that I talked about in my previous video. I really liked the color compilation, I think it’s gorgeous so I’m gonna set that aside as one of my options for today.
I also have this Vintage Dawn much more colorful kind of palette that looks a bit neon in my monitor so maybe it looks neon on camera but in person it’s a lot more warm toned I would say. Another option here I couldn’t find too much about this brand in the about section on their website but as far as I know this is a certified black owned brand kind of an indie brand because it’s new, not super well known but I definitely wanna play around and dip into those shadows as well.
Now a brand that you guys might be familiar with if you been in the social media beauty space or beauty scene for a while, I’m sure you have heard of Coloured Raine. Now Coloured Raine is a black owned brand and fun fact Coloured Raine was one of the first brands to send me PR back when I had like I don’t know probably like ten thousand followers on Instagram.
Look at this gorgeous Queen of Hearts palette. So, this is one of their latest palettes that I did get in PR fairly recently and I feel like these colors are kind of speaking to me right now they’re really inspiring me, but I can totally see how I tie in this palette as well.
So, let’s go for it. I’m going to start with the shade “Lady ship”. You already know what I’m gonna do. Starting at the wing wing that out. Also, gonna add some colour to my lower lash line. Damn that’s already a look.
Super-duper pigmented as you can tell. These are the kind of colors that will definitely show up not just on lighter skin but also on deeper complexions. Pigment is so important if you want your eye shadows to show up.
The color is so pretty I wanted to leave it just for the wing, but I think I’m actually also going to add a little bit to the crease. With my eye open shade right here just slightly just up until this little freckle here.
Nice. Next I’m gonna take a clean round contour brush no name brand. I’m just gonna blend that out so that it looks a little bit more seamless and so that it’s not super harsh so then it looks blended.
Gonna add a bit more “Lady ship” just because this is such a gorgeous shade. Next I’m gonna take this shade right above called “Princess”. Hey brush and just add that right above to help with the blending.
This is a nice dusty rose shade and it goes perfectly with this wine “Lady ship” eye shadow. Okay I’m pleased. Next up for the lid I wanna go for a light contrasting shade so I’m gonna pick up this shade here called “Air” which is basically a shade that is kind of close to my skin tone.
I’m gonna plop that all over leaving the centre blank for some sparkle. While the pigment on this shade is undeniably good do you see how it just covers up that “Lady ship” wine purple shade? I mean I have to bring it back.
Okay I love that for me. Wow look at that pigmented sparkling white. Holy crap holy crap. Gonna add that to the centre of the lid just painting it on and then blending it out. Where’s my little brush? Gonna go back to that shade “Princess” which is that dusty rose.
Gonna blend that a bit right here. That white is really, really, really impressive. It actually makes my lid now look 3D. Honestly this is so pretty I don’t even wanna tough it anymore. I’m really liking where this makeup is heading.
I feel good about it and I’m gonna leave it as such. Next I’m gonna grab the Ace Beaute Grandiose Palette and I’m gonna go for this shade here called “Jasmine”. This one’s a much more champagney shade.
I’m gonna add that directly to my inner corner. Wooo. Also, gonna add that to my brow arch right here may wanna extend that a little further out actually so that it can meet with my highlight. Love love that.
Think I’m gonna pick up this shade called “Clove” which is a beautiful coral peach shade. Hi and it’s also super pigmented. Going to add that to the inner portion of my lid lower lid that is. Just add a pinch more of that purple.
Oh, this hair is ugly and annoying just please stop being annoying. Alright I’m gonna leave the eyes alone for now. I’m gonna go back to the eyes in a second but first I actually wanna talk about another brand that I love a lot and it is Danessa Myricks Beauty.
Here I have a collection of her highlighters that are called “In Light”. Do you see this range of highlighters for all skin tones? Now these are loose highlighter pigments in powder form. There’s a lot of gorgeous deeper shades in here that look amazing on deeper skin tones.
They’re all super reflective complex type of shades. There’s also a good number of really fair highlighters. All very unique and very beautiful. For my look today I think I’m gonna go for the “Aura of Synergy and Light” Highlighter.
Just a gorgeous pearly type of shade with gold and pink reflect. Packing that on to my Fenty highlighter brush. Okay so now we like this glaze I feel like I wanna add some more of this glaze to my eye.
I just experimented and played around and added liner and some more of this highlighter powder to the eye and I really love it so I’m gonna do the same thing to my other eye. Just kinda plop it all around as a shimmer powder.
Gonna go passed the crease. Just gonna add a little bit of that. Now the reason why Danessa Myricks’ highlighters are so good is because Danessa Myricks really knows what she’s doing. She is a celebrated makeup artist.
I’ve known her for a while I’m a huge fan. She actually used to work for Benefit and she helped them create their brow line back when their brow line first started also she is a published author and this is one of her books, “Power Contouring” by Danessa Myricks and it’s one of the books that I read to actually help me get to know contouring better.
So, thank you Danessa. Not to mention she’s also just a beautiful woman all around super talented makeup artist and awesome person you guys should follow her and you should definitely check out Danessa Myricks Beauty.
So, what I did on this eye is I picked up my Pat McGrath labs liquid liner. Basically, lined the top lash line as I normally do. Small wing nothing too dramatic and then I’m basically going to add a wing to the inner corner.
This liner is a felt tip type of liner so although I’m generally not a huge fan of those this one is really easy to use because the tip is very flexible. Pat McGrath mascara not a waterproof formula but a good formula so if you don’t have issues wearing non waterproof you will like this mascara.
Alright and now for the lashes. Guys remember Ace Beaute lashes that I talked about in one of my previous videos. These are very big and dramatic, but I feel like for this look it’s perfect because my lid is kind of bare and all the beauty is really concentrated on the outer and on the lower lash line.
These will be perfect for this look. This is the style don’t make me pronounce that these are big these are dramatic, but they are nice. One more time I’m gonna add a little bit of liner just to hide that band, voila.
I’m gonna add this Black Coffee pencil from Pat McGrath to my water line, I am not gonna add that to the inner corner I want the inner corner to be bare. Just gonna stop right here meeting with that inner corner wing.
Next step is the lip you guys. I’m so excited about the lips. I’m gonna be using The Lip Bar lippies which by the way are actually some of the first liquid lipsticks non-transferable liquid lipsticks that I’ve ever tried.
They are so good. These are some of my favorite colors “Man Eater” and “Bawse Lady”. Think for today’s look I wanna go for “Bawse Lady” just because it’s such a rich beautiful wine shade. I’ve always loved the packaging of Lip Bar lipsticks.
It’s always so recognizable in my makeup stash. Actually, gonna apply that first with a lip brush and then I’m gonna go in straight from the tube. So, The Lip Bar was started by Melissa Butler who is actually an ex-stockbroker who went on Shark Tank didn’t make it, but she didn’t let that defeat get to her.
She started her own brand and now The Lip Bar is actually available in four hundred and fifty targets nationwide. That is an amazing boss lady story and I applaud it. Okay how stunning is that color? Just such a gorgeous blue based red that’s not too purple, not too red, not too orange, it’s just like a gorgeous flattering color.
Huge fan of this brand huge fan of these lippies and I cannot wait to try more. And you know what one final little tiny touch. I’m gonna add some of that Danessa Myricks shimmery shadow right over the peach on the lower lash line just for that extra sparkle and extra shimmer.
I feel like it needed it and now that it’s on I feel completely dressed up. Brow needs to be a little elongated just one sec looking a little short. That’s it you guys here is my look using all black owned makeup brands.
Alright you guys so here are my thoughts on everything. Fenty Beauty and Pat McGrath we already know these brands. These brands are huge and massive. Pat McGrath is a legendary makeup artist and her brand is absolutely one of the best brands out there I am a huge fan of this brand and I’m going to continue using it and supporting it because Mother Pat is a supreme diva to say the least.
Her products are incredible. Fenty Beauty is another line that I have been loving since the beginning of its launch. Rihanna is the one who helped to bring about Fenty Beauty. Fenty being Rihanna’s actual last name for those of you who didn’t know and it is co-owned by Rihanna and Kendall Brant with Rihanna owning either fifty per cent or the majority share and they have an amazing range of foundations for every single skin tone, eye shadow palettes, lipsticks you name it they got it.
Beauty Bakerie this is a new brand for me, but I have seen it for years and it’s a brand that’s recently sort of surfaced on to the beauty sphere. They have a cult following for their Flour powder. These are baking powders that can be used to set your foundation to set your under eye.
They also have an extensive line of other products such as lipsticks, such as these awesome face palettes and I’m excited to explore more. We got Black Up which is a black owned French makeup brand. It’s geared more towards the makeup artist.
It’s got a lot of complexion products, things for color correcting for contouring and of course it’s got some color as well so definitely check it out. I believe it’s actually available at Sephora France but don’t quote me on that I might be wrong.
Coloured Raine is a brand that I am well familiar with, it is a black owned brand who was one of the first to actually send me PR. Their rainbow colored lipsticks were some of my favorite they were so vibrant so pigmented and now they also have eye shadow palettes.
Obviously if you watched this video and if you see this look you can tell that this palette is amazing, I really love the colors and I’m gonna continue playing around with it. So definitely check it out if you’re not already familiar with it.
Ace Beaute is a newer brand that I literally just recently discovered maybe about two weeks ago. They have some eye shadow palettes, also some lashes that are big and bold and fabulous. If you’ve tried this brand before, let me know what you like from them so that I can check it out.
Nessa Myricks a veteran in the beauty industry she’s worked for Benefit and other brands, she is an author, she is a renowned makeup artist and her products are great so definitely check her out. She has a smaller beauty line, but her highlighters are awesome, and they are available for a variety of skin tones.
Also, you guys follow her on Instagram for some serious makeup inspiration. Thank me later. And last but not least we have The Lip Bar started by Boss Babe now available at Target and they have many more things than just lip products so definitely check them out give them a follow.
Check out my description below for more black owned makeup brands. Let me know what your favorites are tell me what I should be trying next I know there are so many products that I wanna dive into and this is just the beginning of what I wanna share with you.
So, with that said I am going to zoom on out. I love you guys I will see you in my next video. Check some of my other makeup videos right here. Subscribe and I will see you soon. Muah!
